St. James the Greater was one of the disciples of Jesus, and the brother of John the Apostle. James is named "the Greater" to distinguish him from the Apostle James "the Less", who was probably either shorter of stature or younger in age. St. James began his journey with Jesus after a fruitless night of fishing, where Jesus, followed by Simon and Andrew had stopped and urged James and John to follow him.
Said to be the first person martyred for Christianity, St. James the Greater is the patron saint for people suffering arthritis and rheumatism. The story goes as James was led outside Jerusalem for execution, he passed a man who was sitting by the side of the road, crippled by rheumatism. The man begged James to cure him. Pausing for a moment, he said, "In the name of Jesus Christ, for whom I am being led to execution, stand up and bless your Creator." As the soldiers dragged James away, the cured man stood and ran to the temple in the city to give thanks to God.
Spain is another patronage of Saint James, where according to legend, his remains have been placed in the town of Santiago de Compostela. The Way of Saint James is a holy pilgrimage to his tomb at the Cathedral, and is the most popular pilgrimage for Western European Catholics ever since the early middle ages. James' emblem is the scallop shell, and pilgrims often wear a shell on their hats or clothes in tribute. Subsequently, St. James the Greater is also one of the patron saints of pilgrimage.
His feast day is July 25.

Beautiful! Unique in that it portrays the Compostela cathedral in the background. It is a miniature work of art!

These cards - I bought three and they all arrived in perfect condition together - are very lovely and strongly laminated so, for instance, you can safely take St James on your Camino or just let him remind you that you want to walk it one day! Don't hesitate, these are wonderful.
