Nice St. Andrew prayer card with the loaves and fishes. A fisherman, Andrew was the first apostle called by Jesus and he is mentioned among the first four Apostles in all of the main lists. He and his brother, Simon Peter (St. Peter) had been followers of John the Baptist, and Andrew introduced Peter to Christ. He is remembered in the Gospels as one of the disciples involved in the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 where he had asked Christ how they were to feed so many with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes.
His feast day is celebrated on November 30.
Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, Greece, Russia, Amalfi, as well as fishermen, fishmongers and rope-makers, textile workers, singers, miners, pregnant women, butchers, farm workers, protection against sore throats, protection against convulsions, protection against fever, protection against whooping cough and invoked by single ladies searching for Mr. Right.
My original illustration, drawn first in pen and digitally colored, printed on 80 lb. stock and finished with a nice heavy lamination. All cards are trimmed by hand (typically mine or one of my two dogs) making them truly a non mass produced item that is unique and created with care.
Card size is 2.5 x 4.5 inches.
Prayer cards are nice little reminders to take small moments out of our hectic days for reflection. Perfect to use as a bookmark, stick in a mirror, or anywhere eyes will happen upon it, and a great little thoughtful item to tuck into a card for a wee gift to mail.
